Brazil's film industry put out significant figures in 2015, according to the Annual Report published by the National Film Agency (ANCINE). Last year, 172.9 million viewers were admitted into the country's cinemas—this is up 11.1% compared to 2014.

The box office earnings totaled $570 million, an increase of 20.1% compared to the previous year. According to ANCINE, these were the biggest box office growth rates in the past five years both in terms of revenue and audiences, and both Brazilian and foreign films have contributed to this increase. Brazilian films accounted for 13% of the total film admissions in 2015, up from 12.2% in 2014.

Film output grew in 2015, with 128 national feature films produced by 116 different companies. This is an increase of 12.3% compared to 2014. Among Brazilian productions, there were 80 fiction films and 48 documentaries. The 20 top box office figures included three Brazilian productions, which accounted for 43% of the nationally-made film admissions and 6% of the overall audience across Brazilian cinemas.

ANCINE has also reported record growth of Brazil's screening venues, with 3,000 theaters in operation in the country at the close of 2015—a milestone the country had not seen since 1977. A total 58 multiplex cinemas were opened last year, adding a total 252 new viewing rooms.

Also noteworthy was the upgrading of the country's movie theaters into digital technology, a process that is near completion according to ANCINE. There were 2,775 digital movie theaters by the end of 2015, accountng for 92% of the total venues. In 2014, that rate was 62.5%.
