Rio's winning samba school to be announced today
The six best-ranked samba schools will return to the Sambadrome on Saturday (13) for the Parade of Champions.
The big winner among the 12 samba schools of Rio's Special Group (first-league) Carnival parades on Sunday (Feb. 7) and Monday (8) will be known Wednesday (10). The announcement of the judges' scores begins at 3:45 pm (local time).
Before that, the chairs of the twelve associations will meet with the board of the Independent League of Samba Schools (LIESA) for the draw that will decide the order for opening the scores envelopes for each rated category. The last announced category will be the first to be considered in case of a draw. If the tie persists, the previous category will be considered, and so on.
The six best-ranked samba schools will return to the Sambadrome on Saturday (13) for the Parade of Champions. The last-ranked one will be relegated to the Access Group (second league) next year. The winner in the Access Group, who will also be announced today, will climb up to the Special Group.
