Brazilian Actress Fernanda Torres on social media celebrated her nomination for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best Actress category as well as the two bids for I’m Still Here under Best Picture and Best International Feature Film. Overcome with emotion, the Brazilian thanked the film’s director, Walter Salles.

“Our film is nominated not only for best foreign language film, but for best film of the year. This is unimaginable,” she said in an Instagram video.

Torres also expressed her gratitude to her colleagues who worked with her on the Brazilian production, including actor Selton Mello. “It was a movie that we made in happiness.”

“Above all, I’d like to thank and pay homage to this extraordinary woman called Eunice Paiva, who is behind it all, who is the source of it all,” she said, referring to the woman her character was based upon.

In the video, the actress also thanked Paiva’s son Marcelo Rubens Paiva, the author of the eponymous book that inspired the film. “An extraordinary book, which made it possible for us to make this movie.”

“I’m moved. I’m really surprised. I love Brazil. I’m extremely proud to see a Brazilian story making sense in the world and bringing us this joy—not only for me, Walter, and everyone involved in this movie, but also for the whole country,” she concluded.
