The Federal Supreme Court (STF) held today (10) a seminar to commemorate the International Day of Human Rights, which is celebrated this Friday. The debates were promoted by ministers Rosa Weber, Carmen Lúcia, and retired minister Ellen Gracie.

With the theme "For these and for others", the judges and invited personalities debated Justice from a female perspective. Topics such as violence against women, conquering space at work and entrepreneurship were discussed.

For Minister Rosa Weber, the event's objective is to promote plural reflection on crucial issues for society. According to the minister, gender quotas are necessary to guarantee the achievement of women's rights.

“We women do not delegate our voice to anyone. We were silenced for a long winter, and this silence made it possible to build a structurally discriminatory social and political system. We do have to speak and make our voices heard”, he urged.

In Carmen Lúcia's assessment, the debate is an opportunity to give women a voice. According to the minister, violence and social wounds continue to occur in the country after 30 years of the Constitution.

“This STF has the function of guarding the Constitution. It's good for us to know that keeping the Constitution is not just putting it on a shelf, it's protecting and demanding compliance with it," he said.

For Ellen Gracie, the Supreme must be the example in promoting a just, egalitarian and inclusive society.

“An inclusive society does not admit that groups, genders and orientations are excluded from any activity, because human beings have the right to develop to the limit of their capacities. Each human being is the repository of an unexplored wealth, which we do not know how far it can go”, he commented.

Also participating in the seminar were businesswoman Luiza Trajano, president of the Superior Labor Court (TST), Maria Cristina Peduzzi, ambassador of Canada, Jennifer May, and president of Rede Sarah, Lúcia Willadino Braga.
