Rio de Janeiro inaugurates space for women's rights defense

Victims of violence will have psychological and legal assistance

On International Women's Day, celebrated this Wednesday (Mar. 8), the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro state inaugurates a women's rights defense room, which will offer psychological and legal assistance for victims of violence. The announcement was made on Tuesday (7) by Representative Renata Souza, head of the Commission for the Defense of Women's Rights.

For Souza, the figures of feminicide in Rio state are alarming. "According to the Public Security Institute, there was a 22 percent increase in cases in 2022 compared to the previous year. In the state of Rio, 103 women were victims of feminicide last year," the representative said. According to her, it is necessary to increase the state budget for public policies aimed at women.
