Pre-salt fields in the Santos Basin, located in the state of São Paulo, have turned out a record oil production in December, with a daily average 346,100 barrels of oil and 12.1 million cubic meters of natural gas. This translated into a 2.5% increase in the total monthly pre-salt output compared to November.
The Monthly Production Update released Monday (Feb. 3) by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) reported that the pre-salt output came from 28 wells across 12 fields.
The Marlim Sul field in the Campos Basin, state of Rio de Janeiro, maintained its position as the leading oil producing field in the country, with a daily average of 280,200 barrels, whereas the Lula field in the Santos Basin tops the ranking for natural gas with 6.3 million cubic meters.
Fields operated by Petrobras were reported to contribute 91.9 % of the national oil and natural gas production. Moreover, about 91.9% of all oil and 72% of natural gas extracted in the country was obtained offshore.
The total national output was drilled from 8,994 wells – 765 offshore and 8,229 onshore. Canto do Amaro, in the Potiguar basin, Rio Grande do Norte state, was the largest in terms of number of producing wells, 1,109. Marlim led the offshore ranking with 59 wells.
