Over 260,000 formal job positions created in Brazil in February
A total of 260,823 formal job positions were created in Brazil in February, according to a release issued on Monday (Mar. 17) by the Labor Ministry (MTE). The month closed out with 1,989,181 new hirings and 1,728,358 terminations.
The number of formal jobs created more than doubled in February compared to the 123,446 new employments reported in the same month in 2013. The increase was 0,64% in relation to January 2014.
According to MTE, between January 2011 when the present government began, and February 2014, 4,792,529 new jobs were created, 1,157,709 of them over the past 12 months. The result is an increase of 10.88% over the number of jobs in the end of 2010.
In February, most economic sectors reported positive employment figures in relation to February 2013. In absolute numbers, the largest number of formal jobs created were reported in services, with 143,345 openings, a record for the period, and the manufacturing industry, with a positive balance of 51,951 new jobs.
