Marco Patuano, the chief executive officer of Telecom Italia, the company that controls TIM, admitted on Wednesday (May 28) that the quality of the cellular services it provides in Brazil is still not ideal.

“The situation is improving, because the level we reached is not what the customer should be provided with ideally. Especially when it comes to data. Brazil is a young country, it likes having a multimedia experience. We’re not at the level we should be as industry, but we’re working hard,” he said after meeting with Communications Minister Paulo Bernardo.

During the meeting with the minister, Patuano reiterated his interest in the company in participating in the 700-MHz band auction, scheduled for August, which aims to expand the country’s 4G network. “In Europe, 4G has already become an important part of reality, so it’s important to have this coverage in Brazil.”

The CEO also presented to the minister a cell antenna project developed in Brazil, to be taken to Europe. Biosite, as the antenna is called, is shaped like a lamp post and was designed to accommodate 3G and 4G transmission equipment.
