Vale mining company CEO to head Petrobras board
Murilo Ferreira, CEO of Vale mining company, was elected Wednesday (Apr. 29) to chair Petrobras's Board of Directors in an ordinary general meeting of the company's shareholders. He's been leading Vale – one of the world's leading mining companies – since 2011, and will take over at Petrobras from former Finance Minister Guido Mantega.
Ten board members were also chosen – seven of them were appointed by the government, one appointed by minority common share holders, one by minority preferred share holders, and another one by company employees.
The members appointed by the government had 66.36% of the vote of the attending shareholders. Besides Ferreira, Petrobras CEO Aldemir Bendine and Luciano Coutinho, the head of the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) were among the government representatives elected to the board.
The new workers' representative is Deyvid Bacelar, a coordinator at the Oil Workers' Union of Bahia (SINDIPETRO), to replace Silvio Sinedino.
The first meeting of the new Board is to take place on May 15.
