The government of acting President Michel Temer intends to cut 4,000 positions of trust until the end of the year, 1,000 more than the reduction announced by suspended President Rousseff in October last year.

They will also revise all 51 different procurement methods currently provided by the Brazilian law, in order to reduce and simplify the rules.

"This does not solve the problem of public spending, nor the fiscal deficit target, but the government shall adopt this stance to give society an example," said Planning, Development, and Management Minister Romero Jucá, during the first press conference with the ministers that form Temer's cabinet.

To facilitate the cuts, acting President Michel Temer asked the newly sworn in ministers to occupy only 75% of the positions of trust, offered to each ministry.

The interim government made no estimate of the amount to be saved by cutting the positions, which, according to Jucá, will also happen in state-led companies, including the state-owned banks.

According to the minister, the amount intended to be saved "will be announced at the right moment." "There are different positions, with different wages, and different situations. And if we can cut more than the 4,000 positions, we will cut more than the 4,000 positions," added the minister.

Salary adjustment

The minister reported that the interim government will carry out the projects that had been submitted to Congress by the suspended government for salary adjustments of civil servants, respecting the agreements negotiated.
