The US dollar plummeted this Thursday (Jul. 14), closing the day at the lowest rate in almost two weeks. The currency dropped 0.46%, sold at R$3.259, the lowest price since February 1.

With today's performance, the dollar reported a year-to-date drop of 17.4%.

The currency has not reported a larger fall because the Central Bank auctioned $500 million in reverse swap contracts, which are the equivalent of buying dollars in the future market. This month, auctions were held almost every day.

In the stock market, the day was also marked by euphoria. São Paulo Stock Exchange index, Ibovespa, rose 1.62%, closing at 55,481 points. It is the highest rate since May 2015.

Petrobras shares, the most active, skyrocketed.
