Brazil's unemployment rate was 11.3% in the quarter ended last June. This is higher than the 10.9% reported in March this year and 8.3% in the quarter ended in June 2015. The result for the second quarter this year is the highest in the time series that began in March 2012. According to the survey, the unemployed population reached 11.6 million people, 4.5% (or 497,000 people) more than in the quarter ended in March, and 38.7% (or 3.2 million people) more than in the quarter ended in June 2015.

The employed population (90.8 million people) remained stable compared to March 2016. Compared to June 2015, there was a 1.5% decrease (down 1.4 million people).
