Some 1.6 thousand projects to be resumed, Brazil gov't announces
The Federal Government announced that over a thousand unfinished construction projects across the country are to be resumed in the next four months, with 45 thousand job posts expected to be created. The statement was made by President Michel Temer on Monday (Nov. 7) during a meeting with cabinet members aimed at discussing further details concerning the move.
Altogether, some 1.6 thousand projects that had been halted will be continued. Temer said 1,110 works are estimated to be reactivated in the next 90 to 120 days, across more than a thousand cities countrywide. Most construction enterprises address basic needs, he says, and include nurseries, kindergartens, health stations, and airports.
“These projects will have transparency as their criterion. They mark the beginning of the Digital Government through the Desenvolve Brasil application, and should act as the forerunners of digital governance. All citizens will have the chance to watch their progress and make suggestions,” Temer said.
The president described the total costs as “a reasonable amount,” which adds up to approximately $624 million. The announcement was made following a series of meetings at which the government debated enterprises regarded as top-priority in each of the ministries, whose costs amount to $156 thousand to $3.122 million.
