Brazil air carriers transported 103 million passengers in 2018

The figure was up 4.1% from the previous year

Brazilian air carriers transported 103 million passengers on domestic and international flights last year. As per data from a report released this week by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), this represents a 4.1 percent increase from 2017.

The expansion in Brazil’s domestic market in 2018 was reported at 3.3 percent against the previous year. In this market, Brazilian companies carried 93.6 million passengers all together, compared to the 90.6 million in the year prior. This is the highest value for this indicator in three years.

A surge was also seen in the international market in 2018—11.9 percent from the previous year, adding up to 9.4 million passengers.

Freight and mail also saw positive figures year-to-month and year-on-year. Last year, firms carried 470.9 thousand tons, up 10.5 percent from the previous year. The rise was referred to as the most significant in seven years.

Likewise, international freight and mail also saw a climb. In 2018, the total cargo transported on international flights by Brazilian carriers stood at 281.7 thousand tons, the highest indicators since 2000, the beginning of this time series. Compared to 2017, the index saw a positive variation of 24.4 percent.
