At an extraordinary meeting held today (May 23), Brazil’s National Agency of Civil Aviation (Anac) approved the concession of air transport services of Globalia Corporación Empresarial—the Spanish group controlling Air Europa. The company’s entry into the country with fully foreign capital was announced by Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas last Saturday (18).

The move makes the company the first international carrier in regular operation for domestic passenger transport in Brazil. Today, Air Europa is active with international routes, departing from and arriving in Brazil through the airports of Salvador and Recife heading for Madrid.

The decision was made during the effective period of Preliminary Injunction 863/19, which abolishes the 20 percent limit of foreign capital for air carriers. The piece of legislation, approved yesterday (21) at the lower house, is expected to be put to vote in the Senate on Wednesday. The document may become void if not approved by the senators.
