Petrobras reported a 1.2 percent increase in the average production of oil, liquefied natural gas, and natural gas in the third quarter of 2021 from the previous three-month period. The data can be found in the Report on Production and Sales of the state-run company on this time span.

The production in the period reached 2.83 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). The wells explored by Petrobras in the pre-salt layer accounted for 2.01 million boed in the third quarter—71 percent of the oil giant’s total output.

“The result confirms the good operational performance of the company in a landscape still faced with restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic,” a note released by Petrobras Wednesday evening (Oct. 20) reads.

The surge owes chiefly to the Carioca platform (Sépia field), which became operational in August, and the higher average in the output for the quarter at platform P-70 (Atapu field), which reached its full capacity early in July.

The company further stated that the fields of Sépia and Atapu are located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos basin, which has been seen an exceptional area, known for its major reserves, low risk, and competitive costs.
