Brazil auctions port terminals in Santos, Paranaguá, Suape
By means of Brazil’s Waterway Transport Agency ANTAQ, the government has auctioned port terminals STS11, at the Porto Organizado de Santos (São Paulo), and SUA07, at the Port of Suape (Pernambuco). For both, the contract is expected to last 25 years.
Terminal STS11, in Santos, was won by Cofco Internacional Brasil with a bid of BRL 10 million. The company—the only to have participated in the bidding—will have to make investments adding up to BRL 764.8 million and raise the terminal’s capacity to 14.3 million tons a year. The license includes a leasing deal for the handling and storage of solid vegetables in bulk, especially sugar, soy beans, corn, and soy bran.
After its conclusion, the terminal is expected to encompass 98,159 m², with an estimated 1,182 jobs created under the lease contract, including direct and indirect jobs and income-effect.
SUA07, in Suape, was leased by consortium Sua Granéis, and its bid stood at BRL 15 thousand. The agreement outlines the operation of a multi-purpose terminal, with the handling and storage of vegetable and mineral bulk as well as general cargo. The consortium, also the only participant in the bidding, is to make investments reaching BRL 59.8 million.
The winning firm should expand the terminal’s capacity to 910 thousand tons of minerals in bulk, 220 thousand tons of vegetables in bulk a year, and a yearly 90 thousand tons of bagged sugar.

Also auctioned was the PAR32 terminal at the Paranaguá Port, through the Paranaguá and Antonina Ports Administration (APPA), to have a ten-year contract.
PAR32, in Paranaguá, was won by FTS Participações, with a concession value of BRL 30 million. Two companies placed a bid. The terminal will be utilized to handle and store general cargo, chiefly bagged sugar, and is located at the Porto Organizado de Paranaguá. The winning firm is stipulated to invest BRL 4.17 million.
