Solar energy shall account for 17% of the Brazilian matrix by 2031
By 2031, 17 percent of the Brazilian energy matrix shall consist of solar energy, Minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque said on Thursday (April 5). According to him, photovoltaic sources currently account for 7.7 percent of the electricity generated in the country.
The so-called distributed generation, a way of energy production usually generated by consumers themselves, such as residences and companies that have solar energy plates, would contribute to a greater share of this source in the national matrix. “Last year, distributed generation in Brazil was the fourth in growth in the world, surpassed only by countries like the United States, China, and India. I think we are very well positioned,” the minister said at the opening of a seminar promoted by Brazil´s National Electric Energy Regulator (Aneel).
Regarding wind energy, Bento Albuquerque explained the plan is to maintain over the next decade the percentage of 11 percent share in the country's energy matrix. “Wind generation has grown 330 percent since 2014. And it is currently responsible for more than 11 percent of our electricity matrix”.
Auction
Albuquerque has confirmed the concession auction for the construction of energy transmission lines and facilities shall take place in June. 13 lots covering 13 states shall be auctioned, and BRL 15.3 billion ($ 3.05 billion dollars) are expected to be invested and 4.5 thousand kilometers of transmission lines shall be installed.
