Brazil´s Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) approved yesterday (Jun 1) the auction of Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, and 14 other Brazilian terminals.

The Infrastructure Ministry intends to promote the auctions in August this year. The concession is expected to attract BRL 7.3 billion ($ 1.5 billion dollars) in private investment to improve and expand the terminals.

The airports will be divided into three blocks. The first one includes Congonhas and ten other terminals in three states: Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Pará (PA), and Minas Gerais (MG), namely in Campo Grande (MS), Corumbá (MS), Ponta Porã (MS), Santarém (PA), Marabá (PA), Carajás (PA), Altamira (PA), Uberlândia (MG), Uberaba ( MG), and Montes Claros (MG).

The second block comprises the airports in Campo de Marte (SP), and Jacarepaguá (RJ) - intended for small aircrafts. The third block includes airports in two capitals in Northern Brazil: Belém and Macapá.

Originally, Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro would be auctioned along with the airports in Minas Gerais. However, its auction should only take place in 2023, together with Galeão Airport also in Rio, whose concession is being returned by the consortium that has been managing the terminal since 2014.

Transmission lines

TCU has also approved the auction of electricity transmission lines in 13 states, scheduled for June 30. The concession is expected to attract BRL15.3 billion ($ 3.2 billion dollars) in private investments and generate permitted annual revenues (RAP) of BRL 2.2 billion ($ 460 million dollars).
