As of January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in Brazil—currently BRL 1,212—will rise to BRL 1,302.
In a note, the president’s secretariat explains that the value takes into account a 5.81 percent growth in inflation plus a real increase of approximately 1.5 percent.
“The value of BRL 1,302 is the national minimum wage. The amount is applicable to all workers, in both public and private sectors, as well as to retirements and pensions,” the note adds.
Since it is a provisional measure, the text will have to be considered by representatives and senators. The same new value for the minimum wage was already planned in the yearly draft for 2023, submitted to Congress in August.
