National park in Brazil’s tropical savanna auctioned
The Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, in Mato Grosso state, Central-West Brazil, was also among the ones recently granted to the private enterprise. Company Parques Fundos de Investimento de Participação e Infraestrutura paid BRL 1 million, up nine percent from the minimum amount stipulated for the auction held Thursday (Dec. 22).
The contract is valid for 30 years and stipulates BRL 18.5 million in investments. The concessionaire will have to refurbish trails, improve parking lots, and implement internal transportation and visitation facilities.
The national park covers an area of 32.6 thousand hectares and is a key preservation area of the cerrado, Brazil’s savanna biome. The area is home to river springs that form the Pantanal, as well as waterfalls and archeological sites.
On Wednesday (21), the same company bought the Ibitipoca and Itacolomi state parks, located in Minas Gerais state, in the Southwest of the country.
