In Brazil, 2022 ended with an average unemployment rate of 9.3 percent, official statistics agency IBGE reported Tuesday (Feb. 28). The rate is below the 13.2 percent registered at the end of 2021, and is also the lowest since 2015 (8.6%).
The average jobless population stood at 10 million people, down 3.9 million (-27.9%) from the previous year. The average employed population, in turn, reached 98 million in the year, 7.4 percent above 2021.
The average employment—the percentage of people of working age who have a job—was 56.6 percent in 2022, the second consecutive year of growth after the lowest level was reached in 2020 (51.2%).
