Brazil's Central Bank has a new president

Gabriel Galípolo will take office on January 1

On Monday (Dec. 30), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva formally signed Gabriel Galípolo´s instrument of appointment as the new president of Brazil´s Central Bank for the 2025-2028 term, as confirmed by the Government Communication Secretariat. Galípolo succeeds Roberto Campos Neto in the role. The signing ceremony, held at the Alvorada presidential palace, was attended by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad. Galípolo will officially assume the position on January 1.

Gabriel Galípolo was nominated by the president and underwent a Senate hearing on October 8. The new Central Bank president, born in São Paulo, is 42 years old. He previously served as executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance at the start of Fernando Haddad's administration. Galípolo holds a bachelor's and master's degree in economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). He has also worked as a university professor (2006-2012) and served as president of Banco Fator from 2017 to 2021.

New directors

In addition to Galípolo, three other directors appointed to the Central Bank were also confirmed: Nilton José Schneider (Monetary Policy Board), Izabela Moreira Correa (Relationship, Citizenship, and Conduct Supervision Board), and Gilneu Astolfi Vivan (Regulation Board). The Senate approved the appointments on December 10.
