Brasília, the capital of Brazil, will host the II International School Feeding Congress from May 23 to May 25. This event, organized by the National Education Development Fund of the Ministry of Education (FNDE/MEC), will bring together over 350 participants from across Brazil and 13 Latin American countries. The congress aims to facilitate discussions on the significance of food and nutrition education in the implementation of school feeding programs, fostering a healthy school environment.

During the event, the 20 best Brazilian experiences in food and nutrition education identified during the fourth Food and Nutrition Education Journey, promoted by FNDE, in March 2022, will be presented. In addition, there will be an exhibition of successful international initiatives.

Steering Committee

Concurrently with the congress, which had its inaugural edition in 2017, the Steering Committee responsible for spearheading initiatives to enhance and fortify the direct acquisition of family farming products for school meals will be reinstated. This reinstallation aims to foster the provision of healthier food options for students in public institutions, while simultaneously cultivating a sustainable market for family farmers.

Visits

Since Monday (22), congress participants have been visiting schools and family farmer properties, which are partners of the school feeding program.

The primary objective is to provide the visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the functioning of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), a public policy that has been successfully implemented in Brazil for over six decades.

The international delegation comprises representatives from Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Panama.
