July sees creation of 188,000 formal jobs

This reflects the net balance of hirings versus layoffs for the month

The Ministry of Labor and Employment reported that 188,021 formal jobs were created in July in Brazil, marking a decrease in new hires compared to June.

The data, sourced from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (CAGED), are provided by companies and detail monthly hirings and layoffs.

Compared to July of last year, hiring outpaced dismissals with a 32.3 percent increase. During that period, 142,107 jobs were created.

In the first seven months of the year, 1,492,214 jobs were created, marking a 27.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The cumulative total is the highest since 2021, when 1,787,662 jobs were created from January to July.

Sectors

In July, all five sectors surveyed—agriculture, commerce, construction, industry, and services—saw job creation. The services sector led with 79,167 new jobs, followed by industry (including manufacturing and extraction) with 49,471 jobs. Trade ranked third, adding 33,003 jobs.
