Clashes in Brazil national soccer cup quarterfinals defined
The clashes in the quarterfinals of Brazil’s national soccer cup—the Copa do Brasil de Futebol—have been decided in a draw held by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on Tuesday (Jul 19).
The duels are: Atlético-GO vs Corinthians, Fortaleza vs Fluminense, São Paulo vs América-MG, and Flamengo vs Athletico-PR.
The first quarterfinals will take place on July 27 and 28. The return matches, where teams fight for spots in the semifinals, should be held on August 17 and 18. The clubs climbing to the next stage will receive a BRL 8 million prize from the confederation.
Half of the teams competing in the quarterfinals are seeking their first title in the national cup: São Paulo, América-MG, Fortaleza, and Atlético-GO. Corinthians and Flamengo boast the most trophies—three each. Fluminense and Athetico-PR were champions only once. The biggest winner of the tournament remains Cruzeiro, with six titles. They were eliminated in the round of 16 by Fluminense.
