Brazil beat Slovenia, bag men’s volleyball bronze
The Brazilian men’s volleyball team beat Slovenia by three sets to one (25x18, 25x18, 22x25, and 25x18) on Sunday afternoon (Sep. 11), in Katowice, Poland. The victory earned the national team an unprecedented bronze medal in the world championship of the sport.
After the defeat to Poland on Saturday in the semifinals by three sets to two and following the nation’s elimination from the grand final for the first time in 24 years, the team coached by Renan Dal Zotto showcased strength and proved superior during a good portion of the match.
The top scorer was opposite Wallace, with 22 hits. The Olympic champion had already retired from the Brazilian team, but decided to return to compete in the world championship this season, so Sunday’s match was likely Wallace’s last with the national jersey on.
Leal also scored another 19 points. On the Slovenian side, Stern, with 17, and Cebulj, with 14 hits, stood atop the ranking.
