Brazil wrote history this Sunday (Sep 25) by winning the first edition of the Four-a-Side Wheelchair Handball Championship, the first recognized by the International Handball Federation (IHF). The event was held at the Dr. Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall, in Cairo, Egypt.
The achievement came with Brazil’s 3–0 win in direct free kicks over Egypt after the teams were equal in the first two sets (8/3 and 6/7) and in the tie-breaker (3 to 3).
The Brazilian team had an outstanding campaign in the competition, winning every single match. The highlight for Brazil was Guilherme Lourenço, an athlete from Kings Maringá-PR, chosen as the most valuable player (MVP) in the world championship.
