On Wednesday night (Oct 19) Flamengo made history by winning the Brazil Cup title, at Rio de Janeiro`s Maracanã stadium. The team beat Corinthians 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw during the 90-minute-regular time, in front of more than 68 thousand fans.

This is the fourth time the team wins the Copa do Brasil trophy. The previous victories were in 1990, 2006, and 2013.

Besides the title, Flamengo also won a significant financial reward: BRL 60 million.

Major champions

Having achieved this victory, Flamengo now joins Palmeiras, which also has four Brazil Cup titles (1998, 2012, 2015, and 2020), and Gremio with five titles (1989, 1994, 1997, 2001, and 2016).

However, the greatest champion in Brazil Cup history is Cruzeiro. The current leader of the B Series of the Brazilian championship won the cup on six occasions: 1993, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2017, and 2018.
