Brazil conquer South American U-20 Championship after 12-year hiatus
After a 12-year hiatus, Brazil won again the South American Under-20 soccer championship. The feat was achieved with a 2-0 victory over Uruguay, on Sunday (Feb. 12) at the El Campín stadium, in Bogotá, Colombia.
This was Brazil's 12th title in the competition, which began in 1954. The victory was achieved in an undefeated way, with seven wins and two draws. Besides the title, Brazil guaranteed, with two rounds in advance, the classification for the U-20 World Cup, to be held in Indonesia between May 20 and June 11, 2023.
Uruguay was defeated with goals from midfielder Andrey Santos, with a header in the 38th minute of the second half, and striker Pedrinho, in injury time.
The victory had a special meaning for coach Ramon Menezes, who had already lifted the trophy in 1991, but as an athlete.
