Brazil to face England in women’s Finalíssima on Thursday

In the final stretch of preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Brazilian team coached by Pia Sundhage are taking the field against England this Thursday (Apr. 6) to decide the first title of the Finalíssima, at Wembley Stadium, London.

The tournament brings together the winners of the Copa América and the UEFA European Football Championship from last year.

The match will be the Brazilian ladies’ penultimate major clash before the World Cup, which starts in Australia and New Zealand on July 20. Brazil currently ranks ninth in FIFA’s world ranking, with England number four on the list. The stadium is expected to welcome nearly 90 thousand fans for the first edition of the tournament.

On Tuesday (4), the squad held the first training session with all 27 players after the arrival of attacking midfielder Adriana in London. Practice was also unexpectedly attended by striker Richarlison, of the men’s national team and British club Tottenham.

The World Cup

Brazil’s matches in the group stage of the World Cup will be played in Australia. The first will be against Panama in Adelaide on July 24. Next, the country should face France in Brisbane on the July 29. The first phase ends with the duel with Jamaica in Melbourne on August 2.
