Brazil to face Uruguay in World Cup qualification match
The Brazilian national team, led by coach Fernando Diniz, will confront Uruguay at 9 p.m. (Brasília time) this Tuesday (Oct. 17) at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo, marking their most significant challenge yet in the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Following victories against Bolivia (5-1 in their opener) and Peru (1-0), the Brazilian team recently played a 1-1 draw with Venezuela on Thursday (12) at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso state, delivering a poor performance. Consequently, Brazil slipped to the second position in the standings with seven points, two behind the leaders, Argentina.
Facing a resurgent Uruguay, under the innovative coach Marcelo Bielsa, coach Fernando Diniz must make adjustments to the starting lineup to secure victory away from home against a strong opponent.
The first change is a necessity, with full-back Yan Couto stepping in for the injured Danilo. Guilherme Arana will make room for Carlos Augusto, and Richarlison will be replaced by Gabriel Jesus. Consequently, Brazil is expected to field the following lineup: Ederson; Yan Couto, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães, and Carlos Augusto; Casemiro, Bruno Guimarães, and Neymar; Rodrygo, Vinícius Júnior, and Gabriel Jesus.
Despite these changes, coach Fernando Diniz expects a tough match in Montevideo: "I anticipate a very challenging game, with both teams striving for the lead."
