Brazil’s boxing completes historic campaign at Pan American Games
Brazilian boxing completed a historic campaign at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, securing a total of 12 medals, including four golds, on Friday (Oct. 27). Santiago 2023 marked a record-breaking edition for Brazil in this sport, with the highest number of podium finishes achieved by Brazilian athletes.
The key to this achievement was the outstanding performance of the women's team, who clinched all the gold medals for the Brazilian delegation. Carol "Naka" Almeida (50 kg category), Jucielen Romeu (57 kg), Bia Ferreira (60 kg), and Barbara Almeida (66 kg) were the golden standouts.
"I'm very pleased with the women's team, it was a monstrous performance. Brazil has evolved a lot with investment in training, participation in competitions outside of Brazil, and salaries of the athletes consistently paid on schedule. Today, Brazil and Colombia are the powerhouses of women's boxing on the continent," remarked Mateus Alves, the head coach of the Brazilian boxing team.
In addition to the gold medals, Brazil also secured silver medals through Tatiana Chagas (54kg), Michael Douglas Trindade (51kg), Wanderley Pereira (80kg), Keno Marley Machado (92kg), and Abner Teixeira (+92kg). Viviane Pereira (75kg), Luiz Oliveira "Bolinha" (57kg), and Yuri Falcão (63.5kg) won bronze medals last Thursday (26).
