The Panam Sports Awards, for athletes who stood out during the Pan and Parapan Games, held this year in Santiago, Chile, crowned four Brazilians in 2023: Rebeca Andrade, Monik Bisoni, Maria Eduarda Alexandre, and Douglas Matera. A total of 16 categories were awarded in Miami, US, on Saturday night (Dec. 9).

Rebeca Andrade, who won four medals (two gold, two silver) in Santiago in artistic gymnastics, won in the Changemaker category, for athletes who have performed well in and out of the sport.

Monik Bisoni, who won the women’s e-football tournament at the Pan Games, won Best e-Sports Athlete.

Maria Eduarda Alexandre, in rhythmic gymnastics, was the winner in the Women's Cali 2021 Legacy category, for athletes who had previously excelled at the Junior Pan American Games held in the Colombian city two years earlier. In Santiago, the 16-year-old gymnast won four medals: gold in hoop and in clubs, silver in ribbon, and bronze in the individual all-around.

Finally, Paralympic swimmer Douglas Matera, in the S12 class (low vision), won best male athlete at the Parapan Games. He had an amazing performance in the Chilean capital: he competed in eight events and won them all.
