The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, released an information guide on Friday (May 2) called “The Large-scale Events Guide – 2014 World Soccer Cup” (Manual de Procedimentos para Grandes Eventos – Copa do Mundo 2014, in Portuguese). Rio will be the venue for seven FIFA World Cup matches including the final game.

The publication, available online on www.prefeiturarionacopa.com.br, describes operational arrangements around the city during the competition period, providing information on transport, route changes, and getting-around advice. “It's basically a handbook, which will be continually adapted for the media, public agencies, contractors and utilities, and other personnel engaged with the event,” Paes explained. It also outlines the responsibilities of the agencies involved in the event organization.

The mayor has also launched the Journalists' Handbook (Manual do Jornalista), which will provide guidance for media professionals on the terms and conditions for filming in the city during the World Cup. The mayor announced that the International Broadcast Centre will operate in RioCentro, West Rio, as of May 10.

The event is expected to reach an audience of 3 billion people around the world.
