The local secretariat on the World Cup (SECOPA) and FIFA have agreed to keep today's match (Jun 16), Ghana vs. United States, as part of Group G, despite a state of emergency in the host city, Natal. The city has been lashed by heavy rain in the past four days.
According to the National Meteorology Institute (INMET), the weather will be cloudy with scattered rain during the day and evening. The game is set to take place at 7 pm local time.
Local authorities report that all rainwater-harvesting ponds have overflown, causing flooding in various parts of town. There was also a landslide and twenty houses were destroyed, with more landslide threats expected. Some 50 households were sheltered.
