Brazilian actor Cláudio Marzo died Sunday (Mar. 22) aged 74 in Rio de Janeiro, from complications caused by pulmonary emphysema and pneumonia. One of the most prominent Brazilian actors of his generation, Marzo started his TV career at the now-defunct TV Tupi, São Paulo, in the early 1960s. He was in the theater company Teatro Oficina, where he trained in Stanislavsky's system.

On Globo TV he starred in successful telenovelas, including Irmãos Coragem, Eu Compro Essa Mulher, and Carinhoso, opposite Regina Duarte, a successful collaboration that was repeated across several soap operas.

On the defunct Manchete TV, he starred in the soap opera Pantanal, playing three different roles. His film career counts more than 30 titles, including O Xangô de Baker Street (based on the novel A Samba for Sherlock), A Dama do Lotação (Lady on the Bus), and O Homem Nu (The Naked Man).

His last role was in 2008, in the Guerra e Paz TV series on Globo TV, in which he played the role of Capitão Guerra. Claudio Marzo left behind a wife and three children from previous marriages to actresses Beth Faria, Denise Dumont, and Xuxa Lopes.
