Federal Police transfers prisoners to Curitiba
Six people investigated at stage 17 of Operation Car Wash, who were arrested Monday (August 3) in São Paulo, are being flown to the Federal Police (PF) headquarters in Curitiba. Among the prisoners is José Dirceu's brother, Luiz Eduardo de Oliveira e Silva, who was arrested in Ribeirão Preto. Luiz Eduardo is pointed by the PF as the former minister's middle-man, responsible for receiving funds from the contracts with Petrobras, even after the beginning of Operation Car Wash. The other prisoner's names were not released. The current stage of the operation has adopted precautionary measures regarding payers and recipients of undue advantage. Among the crimes investigated are active and passive bribery, conspiracy, forgery and money laundering.
After being arrested and taken to the Federal Police headquarters in Brasília, the Former Chief of Staff, José Dirceu, will only be transfered to Curitiba if the Supreme Court approves the transfer request made by Judge Sérgio Moro. Moro claims that Dirceu is a convict sentenced by the Supreme Court (Action 470) in the cash-for-vote scandal, known as mensalão.
Frozen money
About $5.8 million has been frozen under court rulings from the Federal Judge Sérgio Moro. The frozen money comes from accounts of the former Chief of Staff José Dirceu and of other seven under investigation in Operation Car Wash, launched this morning. Blocking the money is a preventive action and it does not mean that the amount is deposited in the investigated accounts. The sentence also affects the accounts of the former minister's brother, Luiz Eduardo, and of the JD consulting firm managed by José Dirceu.
