Technicians and analysts at the Central Bank in Brasília started at midnight on Tuesday (Sep. 8) a 24-hour stoppage to demand higher pay in line with the institution's prosecutors.

According to a representative from the National Trade Union of Central Bank Employees (Sinal-DF), Rita Girão Guimarães, the civil servants want the salary of analysts, who also have a university degree, to be brought in line with that of prosecutors, who pursue a legal career. “Prosecutors are paid more than the Central Bank's civil servants, who carry out [the institution's] target activity,” she said.

The employees further argue that technicians should once again earn 50% of the analysts' pay. A salary adjustment of 27.5% is also among their demands.

The stoppage, slated to end at midnight on Wednesday, could have an impact on money distribution, bank supervision, costumer service, and other activities.
