Rousseff asks volleyball athletes to bag Olympic gold
President Dilma Rousseff asked the players from Brazil's national volleyball team to bag the gold medal at the 2016 Olympics, to be held in Rio de Janeiro. She received Thursday (Oct. 15) the eight athletes, of both men's and women's teams, for a lunch at the presidential palace.
Apart from the duos Larissa and Talita, Ágatha and Bárbara Seixas, Alison and Bruno Schmidt, and Evandro and Pedro Solberg, their coaches, as well as Sports Minister George Hilton, Defense Minister Aldo Rebelo—who were once head of Sports—and Jaques Wagner, Chief of Staff, were also invited.
Larissa said the athletes have been working hard to prepare for the Olympic cycle ever since 2012. “She asked us to bring the gold medal, no more [giggles]. But that's our goal. We really want to bring that score home, not just for us, but also for the Brazilian people, who I'm sure will support and follow us next year through the Olympic Games.”
