Brasília
Activists in social movements including the Landless Rural Workers (MST), the Homeless Workers (MTST), and the People Affected by Dams (MAB) occupied the main entrance of the Finance Ministry building in Brasília on Wednesday (Jan. 27).
The Federal District Military Police said there were 200 people in the demonstration, but the MST contends the number is larger. They are protesting against the plans to privatize the Goiás Energy Company (CELG), and advocate a popular agrarian reform.
They are also demanding a meeting with Chief of Staff Jaques Wagner. Staff at the Ministry of Finance has used the Annex entrance to get to the main ministry building.
