National Security Force launches Rio 2016 Games operation
The National Security Force is taking over the patrolling and policing efforts in the regions where the venues for the Rio 2016 Olympics are located. Also starting Tuesday (Jul. 5), 30 days before the games are slated to kick off, is the joint operation specially designed for the sporting event, spearheaded by the Extraordinary Secretariat for Security in Major Events, under the Justice Ministry.
Among the efforts under the operation is the activation of the Integrated System for Command and Control, which is to integrate security forces directed at the games. The system is based on the Rio de Janeiro Integrated Center for Command and Control, which operates in the city's downtown area.
The system is to be formed by agents for public security, civil defense, and urban planning.
