Othon Luiz Pereira da Silva, former CEO of Brazil's state-owned energy corporation Eletronuclear, has been sentenced by a federal court to 43 years in prison for bribery, money laundering, tampering with investigations, tax evasion, and criminal conspiracy.

According to the Federal Prosecution Service (MPF), Silva was paid 1% kickbacks on Eletronuclear contracts signed with Andrade Gutierrez and Engevix construction firms to build Angra 3 nuclear plant in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro.

Twelve other people have been convicted for public fund embezzlement in the plant project, including Othon da Silva's daughter, Ana Cristina da Silva Toniolo. She was sentenced to 14 years and 10 months in prison under the same charges as her father's.
