Civil servants from the state of Rio de Janeiro protested in front of the state assembly this Tuesday (Dec. 6), on the first day of the vote on the state government's austerity package.
There were clashes between police officers and demonstrators who threw fireworks at police officers who got back at them with teargas bombs.
An iron fencing has surrounded the assembly building for two weeks and has been protected by a large number of military police officers who fired bombs trying to disperse demonstrators.
Until early evening, the situation was still stressful in the streets around the assembly.
