The Brazilian government is going to resume 436 of its 1,600 stalled projects throughout the country, Planning Minister Dyogo Oliveira announced in Brasília Wednesday (Feb. 22).

The projects cost $274.79 million and will serve the population directly. They include day care centers, nursery schools, or school courts.

“These projects mean a lot to the communities that will benefit from them. It's such a shame that they were halted halfway through,” the minister said in a press conference.

The 1,600 projects are expected to cost a total $1.1 billion. Out of the total, sanitation works alone account for $320 million. Oliveira said there are funds available to meet all the costs, and that President Michel Temer expects to resume 1,120 of the projects—70% of the total—by June 30, 2017.
