Former Rio Olympics head Nuzman released

Nuzman is believed to have taken part in a ring that paid some $1.9 million in exchange for votes in favor of choosing Rio as the host city for the Olympic games.
Carlos Arthur Nuzman, former president of the Olympic Committee of Brazil (COB), was released from jail one day after he was charged with corruption and criminal organization in a probe into a vote-buying scheme to see Rio selected as host city for the 2016 Games. The decision was made by Superior Court authorities on Thursday (Oct. 19).
Nuzman is believed to have taken part in a ring that paid some $1.9 million to International Olympic Committee (IOC) directors in exchange for votes in favor of choosing Rio as the host city for the Olympic games. The prosecutors who had requested his preventive arrest also allege that he keeps concealed funds in a coffer in Switzerland.
On October 11, Nuzman resigned from his post after being president of the committee for close to 22 years.
