Group of Venezuelans transferred, have jobs guaranteed
A group of 30 Venezuelans applying for refugee status and temporary residence in Brazil are being taken today (Oct. 25) from the city of Boa Vista, capital of Roraima state, in the Amazon, to Salvador, state capital of Bahia, in the Northeast. They are expected to arrive in the new city with job posts guaranteed or available for them.
This is the first time the resettlement initiative is carried out with posts previously reserved in the target city. The jobs were obtained thanks to a joint effort by the Brazilian government and the Volunteers for International Service Association (AVSI), which contacted the firms interested in foreign workforce from overseas.
The group is flying to Salvador on a C-99 aircraft of the Brazilian Air Forces. Of the 30 immigrants, five will stay in the capital. The remainder will be taken to the city of Alagoinhas, 120 km from Salvador, where they will be employed in the beverage industry.
Over 2.8 thousand Venezuelans have been relocated, according to official figures. Immigrants are only allowed to take part in the resettlement program after officially stating they are willing to do so with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
