The government of Amazonas state confirmed the deaths of 55 inmates in four different prison units in the capital city of Manaus. The bodies of 40 prisoners were identified Monday (May 27) and 15 on Sunday (26), when the quarrels among inmates broke out. Most bodies showed signs of choking.

Justice and Public Security Minister Sergio Moro wrote on Twitter that the ministry will “make beds available in federal penitentiaries for moving the leaders involved in the massacres.”
