A joint action by the Brazilian Federal Police and Paraguay’s National Anti-Drugs Secretariat concluded the third stage of Operation Nova Aliança (“new covenant”), which aims to eradicate marijuana grow sites in Paraguay. The crackdown led to the destruction of 3 thousand tons of the drug.
The police described the operation as efficient, adding that it serves to cuts costs. The amount eradicated this year surpasses those of 2017 and 2019.
“The strategy of attacking the production of the drug before it reaches the Brazilian market enables the country to spare a considerable amount of money in efforts to repress drug trafficking, arrests, and court cases, as the amount of cannabis circulating in the country is significantly lowered,” the police declared in a note.
