Rio’s Copacabana beach will host a party with 16.9 ton of fireworks across ten boats for a 14-minute synchronized show with exclusive music on New Year’s Eve, the city announced.
Rio Governor Wilson Witzel also unveiled the state’s participation in the celebrations. The event is estimated to cost $2.4 million, he said.
“This year we expect to cross the 2.8 million people mark at the party on Copacabana beach. Hotels are nearly 90 percent full,” the governor said at the Guanabara palace, seat of the state government’s executive branch.
The president of Rio’s tourism company Riotur, Marcelo Alves, confirmed the public’s expectations, the same number as last year, and said hotels hope to use their full capacity by December 31.
